Youth About Business, a Nashville not for profit that provides a leadership training program for youth will have the unique opportunity to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on November 30, 2009.
Youth About Business started in 1992 with seven students in Nashville TN. It now has operations in 5 cities (Nashville, Memphis, Houston, Chicago, and New York) with plans to open Atlanta and Washington DC this year. In 2009, student participation came from 11 states.
The most notable program of Youth About Business is the Summer Business Camp which is held on the campus of a top tier university in each market. In this program, students participate in a resident camp where they perform a Merger and Acquisition simulation. During the training, students meet with Attorneys, Accountants and Bankers to understand the mechanics of how to properly conduct their negotiations during their Merger & Acquisition simulation.
On Nov 12, the national championship team of students was awarded shares of stocks in Deutsche Bank. The championship team this year was from the Midwest Region Whitney Young Magnet School in Chicago, IL. The Midwest Region is managed by Youth About Business alum, Alvin Wade. Alvin is a student from Hume-Fogg Magnet High School and he also spent 2 years on Wall Street working for BarClay’s Capital.
